Agreed; the gameplay loop on LW is incredibly engaging... but what's the point of continued grinding if pebbles are as valuable as their real-world equivalent (ie: not very, lol), and there's a cap on the amount of MS shards one can find in a day?? I'm only willing to grind for new wild wolves or leveling "fodder" wolves for so long before the pointlessness of it sets in.
I joined during the first week of launch post-beta, and learning that expansions used to use the pebble currency is incredibly frustrating, and honestly, absolutely dumbfounding. Why make the change, or at least add MS-based expansions on top of pebble ones??? The only reason I can think of behind this is to entice more players into purchasing premium currency, in which case the decision feels either very unwise or vaguely predatory - a petsite should NEVER be pay-to-win, IMO, and with the focus seemingly put on whales/premium players, it's beginning to feel that way.
(This isn't to throw flack at anything or anyone in particular, FYI, that's just my genuine feelings/assessment of things over the last couple months.)
I'm sure the devs are hard at work but it's difficult to keep faith when it feels like nobody is responding to these concerns directly (aside from moderators assuring us that they do, which is appreciated, but not quite the same to me.) I understand good things come in time, but if your base economy in a game is crashing, that's a quick way to drag everything else down with it and could drive potential users away from the site entirely. Early intervention is difficult bc obviously items and assets take time to create/code in, but... that feels like an issue that should've been given more focus in beta. I'm not sure how long LW's early dev time spanned, but it almost feels like this official release was a little... rushed? (again, based on personal perception; idk the nitty gritty details of alpha or beta versions of the site.)
Regardless, the way things are now, I don't see MS as worth spending on little things, just in case there's a bigger thing i might want to save for more - and since im free-2-play, that means potentially weeks to months of daily grinding, and/or selling a crapton of item stacks for 1MS a pop on the FM. Rather than being something I feel motivated to work towards, it begins to feel like a chore. And if people aren't compelled to sell or trade MS or shards in favor of stockpiling for future updates like many seem to be, then the inflation issue is only going to get worse.
