I'm a player on another website where each month artists submit their designs and one design becomes an official game pet/item. (Sometimes multiple designs are also picked and released as part of events etc.)
There is a theme for the month and the community picks one design out of the top 10 picks. Sometimes the art needs to be redrawn, but if the artist's style works well enough, it's generally left as-is.
It's a great way to supplement the site's official artists and get the community involved in the longevity of the site.
Lorwolf could do something similar, where each month 1-2 user submitted apparel items win and are added to the pebble Mole Market. The winners could get a prize such as a free custom apparel token, moonstones, copies of their item or something else...
It would give more options each month to purchase and give players a way to get their custom apparel out into the site. It would also help rebalance pebbles.
Edit: With the recent announcement of the colouring competition, this idea would be in addition to, but very similar to, the colouring competition.
