Literally the title… I do not understand a single thing about how studding wolves works. I want to try it but,,, do my wolves go anywhere? Is there a cooldown? If they do go somewhere, can someone else release them? Do they come back? Do I need space for them to be able to come back??

If you mean studding on the flea market, your wolves don't go anywhere. Males can be listed for studding for up to 7 days. They remain in your den, and people can buy the listing to breed their females. You get the money and they get a bred female.
It does put your wolf into cooldown immediately just from listing, so be sure you want to give up your stud for that breeding period.
Most people list their studs for the full 7 days since you can't use them anyway until the cooldown is over.
I make a nice little second income from selling stud service for my males who are too related to my own females.
