Support!
I would LOVE this. I messed up my progen's colours (I wasn't really familiar with FR yet) and put one's colours the wrong way around and I've been regretting it every day since, to a point where I even emailed support about it, but apparently, changing it would not be fair to other players. (I didn't press it further, though I do disagree with it. Everyone gets to pick the colours of their progens and have the starting pair they want, so I personally don't feel like adjusting a progen based on a mistake (especially to match the other progen) would be unfair. But maybe there are variables I'm missing, I have no behind the scenes knowledge after all.)
Seeing as (unlike FR, as I understand it) progens can't be sold, traded, released or studded, they're two wolves a player will be stuck with forever and I think it would be nice to be able to fix mistakes like that.
As someone who got to play during the beta and the pre-launch, I think it's only fair that one of these two options are implemented: allowing a very rare (yearly) or one-time change of progen colors, or providing a thorough explanation/tutorial of the breeding mechanics before the player is invited to create their progens.
Even having come over from FR, and knowing these were the only wolves I would ever be able to customize, I failed to make nice wolves that make nice babies the first (and even second!) go-round. The way the lorwolf markings function and layer and inherit is SO different from FR's color mechanics.
Besides, if every person/account is allowed to change their progen color(s) once, it can't possibly provide a significant gameplay advantage. All it would do is make your userbase overall more happy. Which... can hardly be a bad thing, right?
This is the only single color change suggestion I support, but I also have other thoughts.
First and foremost, I don't really think it's about knowing or not knowing how other pet sites approach progen customization. I think LW should be judged on its own terms here and I agree with the sentiment that more of a tutorial should be added at account creation that includes a brief explanation that this opportunity to customize is unique and how a color wheel style of breeding works. I think the puppy predictor being usable here as someone suggested earlier would be awesome. These are our progens, for most of us these will be our most precious wolves and we care about them making puppies we're happy with. Guidance would be good.
So, prevention first. I think new players should be given better tools during progen creation and then we wouldn't need super specific one-off account-bound solutions for preventable mistakes.
As for wanting to re-customize because of player preferences changing and not because of mistakes, I do still support the intention of the suggestion but I don't think it'll be as effective of a solution. If this is to be used for tastes changing, is one color slot going to be enough? One color being off is a mistake, but tastes changing are likely to require more editing ability. I played all waves of beta and made a completely different progen pair every time. I got a lot of "drafts" so to speak. I'm happiest with the pair I made at launch because I learned that I didn't actually like what I thought I would before (sorry double Potato progens of the past, your puppies were boring!).
So in a way I feel like this proposed item should be all or nothing and it should be an item that serves everyone; let it grant complete editing ability of all slots and whether a player uses it for 1 slot or all of them is up to the individual. Because this is for progens, plenty of which across the site were already designed to be "valuable" based on other pet site experience, I don't see this as being particularly exploitable if the correct limitations are in place. I personally would like to see this as an item that stocks with a quantity of 1, refreshes stock once per year, costs MS, is soulbound, and players cannot hold more than one in their inventory at a time. The limitations should be in how the item is accessed, not what it can do.
I don't have a preference for one approach over the other - improved tutorial vs new item. I think an improved tutorial should be done regardless, but if we can be selfish I'd ask for both haha. I likely wouldn't change my progens even if we did get an item but I love options and we'll always need more stuff to buy. I think customization privileges being one-and-done is kind of a dated idea and there's nothing wrong limited accessibility of it.
massive support. i really don't like how i made either of my progens color-wise -i was even considering just making a new account and starting completely over, but i re-read the tos and realized that wasn't allowed T^T. i agree with making the change rare -a ms price and a 6-12 month cool down sounds fair.
Support! When I made my progens, I never knew they'd be my only custom wolves as this is my first pet site. I didn't really put much effort into them, and now I regret it. But I don't agree with having to pay for it, it should be free but one-time only. Or, there could be a simple warning when you click to finalize the colors, something like "This will be your only chance to make a custom wolf."
hi :)
Extreme support on this!! I would happily pay money to change my progens at this point. When I created mine, I didn't put much effort in them and at this point I just want to get rid of them... Maybe a one time, free change and any wishes to change your progens again would have to be paid for and only allowed once a year?
So much support!
I would definitely like to change my progens after getting better familiar with the color wheel and breeding aspects of the game, so even if its a one time thing that I had to pay for, sure. Though I very much like other's suggestions of like a walkthrough when you start, kind of letting players know and see how it kind of works. The predictor in there would be really nice too! I know I struggled with knowing what exactly I wanted my progens to look like for a long time when I started the game, and even still I regret the choices I made.
