Thoughts on WWs?

I came here from FlightRising, where there's a huge G1 culture - I'd know, I'm a G1 collector over there - and I was surprised to find that wild wolves just don't honestly appeal to me at all! I came into this game fully expecting to really be into WWs, but I'm having so much more fun collecting G2+s so far.

I think the big difference for me is that it can be really hard to find a WW that looks even half as nice as a bred one, at least right now when there's not too many in circulation. On FR, if a G1 has bad colors, then you can hide that with strategic gening or leaving one of their genes basic, and that's not really an option on Lorwolf right now. If you get a nice double WW with great natural colors except they have, like, a neon green accent, you're just stuck with that. For me, I think that's keeping my interest away from the WW market.

Has anyone else had a similar experience to me, expecting to be into WWs but just not seeing the appeal? Or are there reasons you really love WWs? I'm super curious!

Also a G1 collector from FR but I honestly adore WWs! The limited genes without accent colors and the extra color slot makes a lot more WWs unappealing and getting one that actually looks good is a lot harder compared to G1 dragons but honestly this exact thing makes me love WWs xD I adore the rarity. The thrill of finding the perfect WW knowing how bad RNG is against you truly tickles my brain haha

I’m actually in the opposite boat, I wasn’t interested in G1s in FR at all when I played but I’m very interested in WWs. I think the fact that they’re more accessible to obtain makes the gamble more fun because it feels like you don’t lose as much if you don’t get something great.

I super agree with being able to hide a color though. I wish we had a special gene that could let you hide one of the non-base colors.

I honestly love wws. Starting this game I decided that I would be a g1 only den unlike my flight rising lair, which is a mix of g1s and non g1s. It is very difficult getting a ww with great colors but I think that's what makes it so satisfying. I also love that there is no basic option! I refuse to use basic terts on my dragons so the fact that you have to make all of the wolves colors work is cool to me. Of course with custom apparel you can still hide bad colors, but I don't want to do that personally.

Finding good WWs is very satisfying in my opinion; I've found that without much effort & a full-time job I've been able to keep up with my food stores well enough to manage exploring for them regularly, although I'm not as committed to finding them while exploring as some others might be. If I happen across one, that's great! If I don't, then I'm not too bent out of shape about it because I'm not that concerned about my wolves being a G1.

The price of WWs on the Flea Market aren't terrible, either, as making pebbles is very easy and they're selling for relatively cheap prices there. I do have to acknowledge I'm someone who has the ability to buy & sell Moonstones, so while getting a WW that I find appealing is easier than it would be for someone without that access, I don't think it's impossible by any means. Sometimes it just takes finding the right person to buy a WW off of you to give you that extra boost you need to get one with colours you want.

It can be a little disappointing when everything's perfect except for that one thing, but those are wolves that I usually keep around for breeding purposes. I breed the genes I want into their pups and do away with what I don't like. I think constantly having WWs in circulation helps keep the market moving and also prevents me from feeling terrible if I release a wolf into the ether that doesn't end up selling and is just taking up space.

Overall, I like them a lot! They're an interesting aspect of the site, and I've found that I'm genuinely not as concerned about each and every one of my wolves being perfectly to my tastes as I thought I'd be. In fact, it's helped me appreciate the little things in some of my wolves, haha!

I love the WW aspect! It definitely it harder to get one worth keeping/marking change but I think that's part of the fun.

I definitely understand the whole feeling of not wanting to bother though - especially that people are popping out so many good pups now. :) That one weird color ruins the whole wolf thing is a joykill sometimes.

I can totally see how the rarity of finding one is a draw for some people! And the low barrier of entry makes total sense, too - even though I've never found a WW I've wanted to keep, even I have to admit it's fun to find one! It's definitely a far cry from how expensive eggs can be for new players over on FR, and how rare they are to find. It's a great point that there's no feeling of loss if a WW isn't great, unlike on FR where you always feel like you missed out if you hatch an egg and the baby sucks.

I think I'm just way too picky, honestly! I've only ever even seen maybe one or two WWs I've liked - it's so close to impossible to find one I like that I guess it makes sense it just wouldn't seem worth it to me. Thinking about it, just personal color preference is probably a big thing, too; I like wolves with natural colors pretty much exclusively. I wonder if a lot of WW collectors prefer brighter, unnatural colors in their wolves, or are at least more willing to overlook a few mismatchy greens and blues?

I completely agree with you! I'm a G1 lair on FR and pride myself on my collection (like, seriously, look at these guys), but over here I'm really enjoying breeding and making pairs. I still have been collecting WWs that are nice or have some sort of significance to them, but I can't see myself being a WW exclusive den over here like I am on FR.

@Panther, so glad to hear I'm not alone!! I'm so proud of my G1 collection on FR - after Sandsurges released today, I spent an embarrassing amount of time picking out which dragons to gene up - but over here I'm happy to just buy and breed pretty wolves. I'm curious to see if my preferences will change as LW adds more genes and breeds (I think part of it is just that wolves aren't super customizable yet so there's not a lot of fun in gening them for me), but I genuinely can't see myself ever being a pure WW lair here, either.

Yes, that is exactly how I feel about it! None of my G1s in waiting look good as Sandsurges so that's just a good excuse to treat myself... right? ^^'

But yeah, with a lack of genes and breeds in such a new game, WWs just don't seem worth it yet. If they do become worth it in the future, then I've got some low IDs that I can make look nice lol!

Over on FR I was only interested in G1s. Over here I'm actually enjoying collecting the beautiful wolves of any generation! I do very much enjoy the WW's though, and being that it's so hard to get a WW that has all matching colors, I find them even more special when they do show up ^^
