Studding?

I’ve seen the current wolf economy and I’m pretty hesitant to bother with making actual breeding pairs only for their kids to collect dust in my den (which some are ALREADY doing). Studding my wolves has overall been a lot more successful for me so far, I was wondering if other ppl here have had similar experiences.

I also feel like studding longterm would have it’s downsides on breeding viability for people looking to actually buy pups, but maybe I’m overestimating the effect it could have? Would love to hear others thoughts about this. I’m pretty new so I haven’t had lots of experience here yet.

I breed my own wolves, but when I have a really nice male pup I want to keep for another purpose I usually put them up for studding on the FM for the 7 day window. I am always perusing available studs to see if there's any interesting color combos that might work well with my pack.

With inbreeding restrictions set at 5 generations, offering unrelated studs to others for use is an important part of ongoing game play!

I love that studding is a feature. It has let me collect wolves I actually want and try different pairings without actually having to keep so many darn wolves.

I bought two all black wolves to breed without realizing they were related. The male cost me 50 moonstones. I was already able to stud him once for 25 moonstones. So yay, recouping costs!

I personally have decided to stop breeding unless I'm pretty much guaranteed to get the pups I want, but I can still kinda contribute to the wolf economy through studding. And buying up all the cheap pups for knucklebones.

@foxriddles

I also really enjoy that feature of studding, I got a male that I still haven’t found a good partner for yet (if I do), but I’ve already made back the money I paid for him via studding. It’s really nice.

but also :eyes: I might have to keep an eye out on your lad, I have an all black female I’d love to get studded for pups to in turn stud myself.

I love studding. I have a studs tab just for that reason. It's nice because if there's puppies that I don't want to release, I can see if they do well as a stud before letting them go!

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but what's studding? :0 I don't join a lot of breeding games so I'm unfamiliar with the term..

@ClamieTy

No worries!

Basically it lets you put your male wolves on the flea market for breeding purposes only. But you still get to keep your wolves after! You don’t get to keep the pups, but when they’re born you can still look at them in the lineage section :D

Honestly I enjoy that aspect, it’s really neat to be able to stud a wolf and be completely surprised as to what the pups are gonna look like.

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation! I think I might try that for some of the wolves I've been keeping to train but not using for any other reasons...hopefully it'll net me some extra funds hehe

Studding's quite nice, but I think it's a shame pet sites always neglect the option to have a "dam" option-- with a protective auto-nest/spawn offspring into the buyer's den feature. It always limits people's options to ~50% of a site's potential, or else forces people to engage in trust-based transactions that the sites never endorse or support. :/

(I understand why a site doesn't want to be bothered with moderating user transactions like this... which just makes it more baffling why they always neglect to offer an official option with just as much non-reliance on user interaction as studding has)
