I'll be really honest that even if I had friends left to try and convince to play LW, I don't think I would given the state of the site. In particular after this most recent update, lol.

This is really punishing to pre-launch players as well. I don't have anyone else I can or would really feel comfortable trying to sell this game to, that would even be interested in investing the required amount of time to unlock the companion(s). Either allow retro-active referrals or add an additional way for players to earn the companions.

This honestly feels like a spit in the face to older accounts.

Support. From my understanding, referral reward systems are typically added at the launch of a site. Lorwolf has been playable for periods of time before its full launch, but it would have been best added at least at the full launch. Implementing this so late was a bad move, and they should be open to letting people get their much earlier referrals in.

As of Patch 1.5 update.

Players can now set another user as their referrer to backdate previous referrals. Users will receive both the 100 Moonwater and will be able to claim an Othrus companion upon the referred player reaching 50 levels with their companion.
