You can pick up sturdy sticks through fishing. I'm sure there are drops in explore too but I'd have to check out a guide. Other than that, check the Mole Market when it restocks. I see them in there in bunches of 10 often.
Or see if someone is selling them on the Flea Market if you are desperate.

Yep, they're in fishing, and they're not that rare! They're also available through the mole market, and once you level your wolves enough, they can also be found in Southmarsh (second sword area in Murkwood) with the Colpach fight.
