I swear no matter how hard I try I just cannot sit and focus on the fishing profession. Most of my friends are having troubles with it too.

I have heard often from a lot of people that it is harder and more slow to get started with fishing. Once you get to the next area, it speeds up a bit!
I'd say try hiring Koda a little bit to get some fish and xp for now. <3 Hope this helps!

I've found that fishing on my phone helps a lot; the smaller screen size keeps me a bit more engaged because all I have to do is tap on the screen (in the general area of the water splash). It feels like it takes less time to play even though it doesn't--perhaps a weird psychological effect from when idle phone games were more of a thing LOL.

Agree that it's easier on my phone, for whatever reason! But yeah, having to sit and focus on just the minigame is a special kind of torture for me every time. It's a bit better every time I unlock a new area because it's at least a bit different to look at, but then once I get bored of that, too, it's back to the struggle. I'm way too much of a cheapskate to hire Koda, but at least I'm glad to hear it's not just me who has trouble with the minigame!
I think the issue for me is how long the minigame takes. It feels as if you spend most of the minute just staring at the same screen and my brain does not like it. If it was 30 seconds instead of a minute, that would make it feel a lot more fast-paced and rewarding to play, I think.
Ooh, edit to add - just saw your signature, I'm AuDHD too! :D One thing that's really helped me with the fishing game is to have a fidget toy to fiddle with while I play it, I use an infinity cube since I don't have to look at it. I genuinely do not think I could focus on the minigame for over 30 seconds without it. It helps me focus paying attention to fishing when I've got something to fiddle with; giving something like that a try might help you, too!
@Crotalus I never even thought of a fidget toy, thats a great idea! I have one with buttons and switches that I keep at my desk for when I'm working (wfh). Thank you! :D
A bit yeah, I don't enjoy focusing on it. Koda's been a big help.
I've been trying hard to get to level 35 but since I still have a bit to go, it's.... difficult.
big same, unfortunately. it's depressing because i usually enjoy fishing minigames! stardew valley; legend of zelda: ocarina of time and majora's mask; ōkami; even fire emblem three houses all have fishing mechanics that make acquiring fish feel like it takes some skill. skill you can improve to improve your outcome, even!
this? ain't that. not only is there zero skill in lorwolf fishing, the rewards are completely arbitrary. it doesn't matter if i click the drop very quickly or very slowly, i get the same randomized draw either way.
these factors result in a torturous experience for every single user onsite. and i feel pretty confident saying that, because every other profession mechanic in the entire game rewards extremely brief bursts of attention combined with rapid task-switching. people who are drawn to gameplay like that (mostly ppl with ADHD, as already pointed out above) are practically guaranteed to hate gameplay like the fishing game! it's completely antiethical to every other system on the site!
ahem. [steps off my soapbox] anyway, we can all suffer together at least. :')
I agree that fishing is easier on the phone - mostly because on the laptop i use a touchpad and can easily miss the mark while moving the cursor, but with phone i get to tap directly on the fish which is much better. The second area gives a few more fish encounters per sesh with helps in completing the frenzy tasks/leveling up in general, but the downside is that there's a lot of guppies that cant be cooked at all...I also think long term I'm def gonna get tired of spending 4 minutes every 2 hours (more likely less once i get less consistent) playing what is basically an extended quick time event, but maybe one day therell be an adjustment or something to make it less of a chore...? Or maybe we'll all get used to it, who knows :/
i feel like the fishing minigame is just. very slow for me.. i want to get my tickets but i dont really feel like staring at a screen for 4 minutes straight (i agree that fishing but feel less like a chore, idk if its because i want to go zoom with my mouse lmao)
The fishing minigame gives me anxiety and i have trouble with my focus. it's not that i'm distracted, it's more that i focus so hard that i go out of focus and just blur out lmao. #justADHDthings

Omg... I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling that way about it 😩 I can do it but I feel like I have to force myself. It's prob my least favorite profession rn and I'd rather just keep hiring Koda lol
