At first i bought a few in the Mole Market, but then i found some companions I never bought and realized they could be won through campaigns too. I also know they can be bought from the weekly festivals and the arena, but since those take a while I don't really think about them much (for now...) My question now is would it be better to buy them outright, or just grind them through battles in campaign?

Subquestions:
- is there an estimated chance rate for getting a companion?
- can we only get companions through battles?
- What is the "best" beginner companion to get?

@ClamieTy the best way to get companions is through the MM. you get 4 as scripted parts of the campaign but they do not drop from battles outside of that.

the best companions currently are Furmus, Canictonis, and Kuzma! Rodill if you care about hunting (for the synergies)

You get companions in campaign through finishing certain quests, and from certain encounters when your profession levels are high enough. you can't really grind companions in campaign; they don't drop from mobs.

that being said, your best chance at getting them is gonna be through the Mole Market and Flea Market. Arena is a good way too, but you have to enjoy Arena to really grind that out. since you're newer, I'd focus trying to get both of the Furmus (weasel) companions, as well as the Cancitonis (swan things), since they do good poison.

@divine Oh i didn't know profession levels could drop companions, so for example fishing - would a companion appear in a pond or smthn while I'm fishing? thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind!

Iirc companions from professions will come from encounters during campaign. So for example, being lv 35 in fishing unlocks a campaign scenario in Icerun that will award a companion.
