Abalone - she/they - lower caverns - Urchin, @SirenSolis
She heard Urchin question why his abilities were so lacking compared to the rest of his family, but Abalone had no good answer to give him. Even Shark had had some capabilities to see through the dark, and it was practically unheard of from her side of the family to be born without night-sight. Their mind flashed back to soon after Urchin was born, before the kit had even had the chance to open his eyes, remembering that terrible sickness that had attacked his small body. The medics of ShaddedReef had been too cautious to administer any of their medicines to a pup so young, so her son had persevered only by the strength of his own will. Abalone wondered for a brief moment (though not for the first time) if this illness was somehow related to her son’s struggles, or if his lack of night-sight was an inborn aspect of Urchin’s body, with as much reasoning for it as the color of his fur or length of his tail.
Either way, Abalone knew it did not matter exactly why he was different. They let his question remain rhetorical, and felt a warmth blossom in their chest as Urchin returned their love and used their words to gather his own confidence and resolve. She finally stood back up as Urchin began to talk about the space, the joints of her elbows creaking in protest at being held in an uncomfortable position. They watched Urchin move about the space quietly, only intervening when he looked back to them, which Abalone interpreted as him asking for their assistance. “You were nearly there the first time, a little more to the right,” She replied, pointing her snout in that direction as she moved to walk next to her son. But before the two could set off, Urchin’s stomach made its complaints known loudly, and she was made suddenly aware of her own hunger as well. “They should be, yes.” She nodded as she spoke, before correcting herself slightly. “Well- your sisters might have finished eating and gone back to the den already. We’ll have to see when we get there.” With that, Abalone started walking out of the space, lightly holding her tail behind Urchin’s hind legs to encourage him to come along as well.
(It's no problem!! I’ve been busy so this took me a while to get done as well. If you wanted to, I wouldn’t mind skipping things forward to them getting to the dining hall instead of walking them all the way through the caves if you don't want to write all that out. Also, feel free to add me to the list for the looking for rp ping! I’ve got an idea for a second character that I’m chipping away at so I’ll be able to do more rps soon :3)
