Does Pure really matter to people?

What I mean is, does a wolf having the same breed parents really matter to people? It has no impact on gameplay or visuals of the offspring and there is no guarantee those ‘pure’ offspring will still have same breed parents even 6 months down the line.

At least bred v unbred is about aesthetics, pure v impure G2/3s has nothing to go on save ‘imagined’ importance.

Its really up to each individual how they choose to value a wolf. ^ ^

I personally don't care if the line is pure or w/e, its not a factor for me. For someone else, they might like it for lore or simply personal reasons. Each player is free to choose how they engage with the game, and that includes how much importance they put on “imagined importance” stuff like pure lines.

As a selling point, its just another thing for sellers to differentiate their pups from the others. This mainly applies to Bracchus kids because of the rarity of the breed. At the end of the day though, its the buyer's choice if they agree to that price or if they decide to pass over a kid.

Personally, it does not matter to me especially because, as you said, people can switch between breeds (and I imagine that will be more common as more breeds are developed). I may be biased though, because I also don't mind releasing pups I think are ugly and changing markings on G2s+ based on their coloring.

Is there a change to genetic components that I might not be aware of? Like, if you have a Zerda pup with a Zerda mom and a Lupin dad, does that carry a chance of the Zerda pup having Lupin babies, even if bred with another Zerda? That would be the only case for keeping lineage pure, especially with hard-to-get breeds.

Otherwise, it's like the last thing I care about, hahaha.

Eh, I like it because it presents a challenge and I think it's cool. Granted people can change parents, so I want to try to own at least one of the parents in my quest for a Bracchus line. But I digress. It's just a fun way for me to enjoy the game.

I dislike the word a lot. It’s just a way to attach a ‘superior’ indicator to pixels. If a person wants to breed only like wolves to like wolves that is on them but it doesn’t add value to me.

To me, pure means G1 bred with G1, G2 bred with G2. I know some folks are all about pure breeds, like, only Bracchus or Volmyr, but that's not important to me. I want my generations to match. G2+WW wont work for me.

@Yonder

To answer your question, my understanding is no – the possible offspring of a wolf is based on that wolf, not on that wolf's parents.

I mean at the end of the day they're all fake pixel wolves. What matters to people is really up to the individual. Things I've seen matter:

  • Specific/low IDs
  • No sharing of lineages
  • Low gens (g1 or G2 only)
  • Parents don't have too many other kids/not too many siblings

I guess it's all up to the individual, since none of it really affects gameplay. I personally prefer low gens and low IDs myself, but care less about pures or siblings

I'm like SCB, I prefer to match generations when breeding my wolves (g1 with g1, G2 with G2 and so on) at least when I have the energy to actually check all the parents and grandparents of a pretty wolf seen on the flea market XD

But anyway I value my wolves mostly on how pretty they look or if I'm attached to them for some reason, I don't even look that much at IDs XD

To echo what everyone else has said, with my time on various pet sites, I would say oftentimes aspects of pets that don't really matter are only paid more for by a subset of people. Most players (like myself) probably don't care, as there is no advantage to having pure parents produce the same offspring. Adding to the fact that you can breed change wolves, there's nothing stopping players from breeding the same wolf species, selling their pups for an inflated value, then changing the species if they want to. Oftentimes I find these communities end up simply trading with each other, so a ‘pure’ breeder, is probably only going to be able to sell to other breeders who want to breed ‘pure’ pups as everyone else isn't going to want to pay an extra price for something they don't deem valuable.

You can see this in other aspects of the site, like low id wolves for example. Most players don't care about wolf ids, and aren't going to want to pay more for them. However, the small subset of players who do care will, will ultimately mainly trade the inflated value of these wolves amongst themselves.
