Oh wow, I am shocked reading this thread.. we assume so much, don't we? I know I did! I can't believe apparel and companions don't lock wolves. I am so sorry that happened to you.

I came to specifically make this suggestion, so I'm supporting this one!
I was playing with companions the other day and almost released a 4d ww (on mobile while scrolling up to switch to the next wolf)... I click fast, but thankfully I stopped before I finalized the release (my heart still sank to my feet lol).
Along with others on this thread, I discovered that neither apparel or a companion prevents a wolf from being released. While I can see how that can be convenient to automatically put those things back in inventory, it is also very risky in my opinion, especially if releasing is final. If there isn't a way to lock in the wolf from being released, then maybe moving the release button to a different place would be most helpful ^^
the fact that wolves with companions and apparel can be released is SHOCKING to me, it shouldn't be so easy to lose wolves dear to you forever like that, while I don't want it to be more difficult to release with nothing on, since that would be really annoying with fodder, a way to safeguard your permas seems like a pretty basic function, and it extremely needed.
Support. I know of a few games where you can your pets so you do't lose them. This game def needs this. I'd be really upset if I lost a wolf because of a misclick.
it's been almost a year into the game and this massive design flaw that can be game ruining for some people still exists, the placement of the release button right next to the naming button at bare minimum could be change, the way it is now is ridiculous.
There needs to be a way to lock wolves from being released, or at least better placement for the release button, but preferably both.
These two work tirelessly to bring home bones as well as new friends. Sometimes they need a break-
If your wolves need a nice rest as well, why not give it to them?
Absolute support for a locking feature, whether it's as simple as 'hit [button] to disable releasing this wolf' or 'wolves with a companions and/or apparel are unable to be released'.
I have been lucky to not be clicking too fast so far as I look through my dens. If I ever end up getting rid of my favorite wolves by mistake I can imagine just... losing steam from playing further. I can imagine this would go double for anyone who puts real life currency into this game.
