Nest 1
The world was dark and every muscle in his body ached. He heard faint calls of voices, accompanied with a gentle howl humming in the air. Did he just die? Was this the end? Would he just hear noises for the rest of its existence?
No. He did NOT like that idea.
He willed for light to shine once more and for his painful limbs to move. He attempted to scream, but only whimpers managed to escape. This caught the attention of one of the voices, and it grew louder and louder. Light poured into his tired eyes, and he saw a blurry blue and brown figure towering over him.
“Hello? Can you hear me?” She called out, lowering her head. She started to unblur, revealing her to be an even larger Volmyr.
“Mmmnghnnrg.” He managed to mumble out, not quite able to speak yet.
“I’m sorry, I’m not sure I caught that.” She gave him a gentle smile, “It’s okay. Take your time, dear.”
“Wh-where... am I?” He coughed, attempting to look around. His attempt was in vain, moving was still too hard.
“Careful, dearie. Don’t strain yourself.” She laid down into a sort of loaf position before continuing. “You are in the Celestial Skies. We are a small pack of guardians who look after the wolves of Murkwood. I am Egg, Ambassador of the Moon. I presume you have already met my daughter, Story. She brought you here unconscious.”
“Story? Story is here?!” He moved to stand, trying to look around for her. He immediately fell over, only to be caught by Egg’s large gentle wings.
“What did I tell you?” She sighed, laying him down in an upright position. “Yes, Story is here. She’s tending to the pups right now.”
“Pups?” He tilted his head, “Was that why she was so angry at finding me too close to this place?”
“Oh no, we don’t know what the pups are. They mysteriously appeared this morning out of a blue and purple haze. Much similar to the haze following around you, stranger.” Egg settled back into her loaf, curiously eyeing. “Out of all the wolves we have encountered, we have never seen one like you before. What did you say your name was again?”
“Dennis. I’m a Bracchus, a rare sight indeed.” A sly smile crossed his face. He liked being rare and being able to brag about it even moreso.
“We know what a Bracchus is, dear. My husband is one, as is one of Story’s littermates. No, I’m talking about the haze around your paws, your pelt’s shifting colors, and the eerie green glow in your eyes. You are no ordinary wolf.” Egg calmly explained. "Not to mention, the world seems to shift around your paws. Story reported seeing a strange trail of broken plants following in your wake. Even now, the nest you sit in has warped beyond recognition."
He looked around at the area he sat in. The nest was even more broken than any of the plants he had briefly touched. Feathers hung completely still in the air, sharp cracks ran across the soft fabric he laid on, and various cushions collided together as if they simply didn’t account for the other’s existence. He frowned at the wreckage.
“I’m... I’m sorry, I don’t know how to control it.” He sighed, shaking his head. “All I know is that this kind of destruction follows me everywhere I go. It gets worse when my emotions are high.”
“Were you under a lot of stress when you met Story?”
“I. I don’t know. I was trying to explore the land of Loria by starting in Murkwood, but there was something inside of me... well, searching for something. But when I saw her... I don’t know, my heart started to race. She was the first wolf to look me directly in the eyes or even directly at me at all without screaming. She didn’t even seem phased. I don’t know what that feeling was, but when she left I felt like I had to chase her. And then-'' He cut himself off. The blue light. Him shattering.
The words.
What did the words mean? He could barely remember what they were. Something about how he was normal and something about Story. But it all went dark after that.
“And then you passed out? Story said she found you passed out after she went to lead you away. I believe she mentioned you were screaming.” Egg looked away from him, staring at one of the colliding cushions instead. “Perhaps you were feeling fear. Have you ever felt afraid before?”
“Fear? I can’t say I have. But uh- even if I did, I’m not sure if it was that.” He looked down, trying to make it make sense. “I think I had a good reason to scream though. When I was trying to find her, all I could find was a growing blue light that suddenly swallowed me whole. Next thing I knew, I was waking up here.”
“Do you think this new emotion made your powers affect you?”
“How could that be? Everything I touch gets destroyed! I’ve even killed or mangled some unlucky wolves by accident. If my powers affected me, then I would probably be dead right now.” He shook his head, and then panickedly looked at Egg. His eyes widened when he saw the state of her wings.
“Wait. How. How are you not dead or mangled? Or Story for that matter, if she carried me here.” He sat up, inspecting her further. There was not even a hint of destruction on her.
“I told you. I am an Ambassador of the Moon, which means I am not an ordinary wolf either. Story is my daughter and she is also the child of the eclipse. We are a group of powerful wolves that come to protect this area.” She smiled, closing her eyes to turn to him. “Perhaps you are one of us in a way, and that is why we weren’t injured.”
One of them? He wondered what that could mean. Were these also strange wolves? He had noticed that Egg also had glowing eyes, but Story’s eyes were completely normal. He didn’t get to finish his thought as a small group of Bracchus puppies came bounding towards him.
“A-apologies. I-” Story came in, out of breath. “The little anomalies escaped me.”
Dennis stared at the puppies in a half horror. Each one had a similar face to his own, yet markings he currently did not possess. He glanced at Story, and the words came back to him as clear as day.
Dennis is Normal. Start Breeding? Story has been selected.
These were his children, weren’t they? But how? He hadn't done anything!
“So these are the pups that ‘mysteriously appeared’?” He looked at Story, expecting an answer.
“Correct. I awakened to say farewell to the falling moon and salutations to the rising sun. When I shifted, these four were resting on me. They faintly glowed, and then they stopped.” She shrugged, “That is all the knowledge we possess about them.”
“Well uh- What are you going to do with them?” He asked, ducking his head so he didn’t look at anyone.
“Well, much like Story’s sisters, we will raise them until they decide it’s time to leave. Or, if they choose, they can stay here with us.” Egg spoke, wrangling the pups.
“Oh.” He blanked for words. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting Egg to say.
“As for you, you are also welcome to leave at any time. As soon as you are ready, you may leave and find where you are going.” She gave him a kind smile while having her eyes closed. “I know your journey was important to you.”
“Oh uh- actually. Would it be too much trouble for me to stay here to help with the pups?” He blurted out, his fur fluffing as soon as he said it.
“Hmm. What do you think, Story?”
“Chaos and destruction. It’s best to keep it in check.” Story replied, staring straight at him. He made eye contact and his heart jumped.
This was a bad idea, wasn’t it?
I've decided to cancel the story for this! Mostly because I didn't have
time. Sorry. But I made a new post in wolf share for his sprinkle
journey! Here you go, have a link
