Things others have said that I agree with

  • Info should be fully available on-site, not just on discord. I hate using super active discords, they make me anxious.
  • Patchnote page updates as changes are made to keep players informed and prevent mistaken bug reports as well as other small, continous communications.
  • Moonstones either need less sinks (for example, the expansions) or need more availability to casual players (via professions) and as things get added into the game, more pebble sinks should be introduced.
  • The food debuffs in the campaign are way too punishing, especially to casual players.
  • The arena takes too long for the small rewards it gives (particulary if you are losing to a lobby of bots which you have to wait for to collect your rewards).

Some of my own thoughts:

I desperately want Lorwolf to succeed. I love the wolves and I love petsites. I enjoy drawing wolves way more than FR dragons since they are less complex in design. I recently bought a bracchus scroll for 42kg but I am genuinely having to consider reselling it rather than using it because I have no confidence in Lorwolf's survival. 42kg is more than I have ever spent on one single thing on Flight Rising and that's not a nice thought, considering the lack of consistent communication, lack of attention to the players wants and needs (I'm refering to the original KBT choice before changes were made), and moonstone imbalance, which is scaring people away. Something needs to change or something will snap. All the players want is some consistency in how and what they are told so the site feels more reliable.

I don't really know how to phrase this but Wild Wolves feel unbalanced? It's like the devs want wild wolves to be valuable but a generated wild wolf's value hinges entirely on its appearance and good looking WWs are RARE because of the five colour system. Wild wolves, for this reason, should be very easy to generate, but they aren't.

I really wish that the KBT could be exchanged for an on-command generation of 1 WW. It should be a crafted item with a pre-owned recipe rather than a hunt which takes time to find and then time to complete. I like 15kp cost but the fact that it requires 50 KBT AND the hunt as well is a problem. Either make it 50 KBT only or make it like 15-20 KBT with 15kp. Or make an on-command item for WWs cost the 15kp to craft but make the hunt free.

Something like that to just make it more fair for casual players to generate WWs. 50 KBT just feels like too much now that I have had the chance to grind. I've heard the phrase ‘full-time job’ when referring to WW grinding and its not really an exaggeration. It's not hard to find WWs, it just takes too much time for the value they provide, and yet they're one of the only ways for me as a casual-ish player to get moonstones so I feel pressured to keep grinding anyway. I quite like grinding for WWs but I can aknowledge that it isn't as rewarding as it should be.

Also, the besprinkler is not of equal value to Flight Rising's Tricolor Scatterscroll because it's harder to get 5 matchy colours than 3 of them, but it has the same price tag as it. It really needs a tweak to be a little lower. Maybe 15-25ms.

But first and foremost, before all these updates and changes can occur, we need consistent communication. Tell us when something updates and what was updated. Update the Howl Hub with patchnotes. Tell us what you're planning next so we can give related pointers. Make a habit of communication and stick to it. We want to tell you what we do and don't like to help improve the site and yet with so little in the way of verbal updates and the KBT misfire we worry that we aren't being heard and that there isn't any direction. Please show us that we're wrong! We want to be wrong and to know that we need communication from the devs!

I want it to be known that yes, most sites do start very rough and get better through time!

However, there is always the chance a site goes down the wrong path. One game (who I would rather not name to give them attention), had a lot of similar issues from beta through launch through multiple years afterward to even today, and it hurts deeply as someone who saw the early signs of problems and never really saw improvements since.

(Talking about that other site) Communication with the team is non-existent unless the userbase rallies together, and then the team will reply to that one (1) thing and then leave, forcing us to repeat the process to get any other information out of them. There was a massive bug that they refused to addressed until it was “too late” and the exploiters got to keep their spoils, while the rest of us got left in the dust. Most things changed between early development and launch weren't addressed for years unless it was blatantly noticable and again, the community had to make an uproar about it. The economy is broken and a particular feature is irreversibly overpowered on an inherent level, which again, they can't fix now because it's “too late” despite our criticisms existing since the very beginning. The site has been declining and is slowly becoming such a ghost town where there's no point in playing unless you are a whale or one of the lucky few making infinite bank off of said overpowered system.

I'd say that site is an extreme example of a site like this going very wrong within a few years. By no means am I claiming this is where we are going now nor ever! But that site taught me a harsh lesson in seeing the red flags and to get out of dodge before FOMO and the sunk-cost fallacy kicks in. I can't describe my very, very deep dissapointment of that team finally hearing out the concerns of users after years of complaints, only for them to shrug and say Well, can't do anything about it now! That's now my biggest fear trying to comfront a team about anything.

No one expects overnight changes or updates, but please communicate with us. Don't make us feel like we're running on a clock before something becomes “too late” to address, it doesn't have to be changed immediately, but open a dialogue. Don't leaves us in the dark on what and why some things were changed at launch. I want this game to succeed, and it would be a shame if people abandoned ship too early which would cause problems in both morale for the community and financially for the team ;;

Do I think people should be panicking about this? No, but I absolutely understand and respect people voicing their concerns and willingness to leave so soon due to the current state. I'm sure my bad experience is not the only one or even the only site like that.

Support! I read everything in this thread with a pounding migraine on mobile because I agree with almost everyone.

I would sincerely hope if the devs are uncomfortable with speaking using their own voices for whatever reason, they consider hiring a liaison (admittedly this may be Quiche's role, but I am unclear on that) to communicate their ideas to the player base.

I just bought the newbie pack or whatever, and I'm kinda regretting not checking in this forum first, frankly.

I know starting and running a petsite is hard and there's a learning curve, but erring on the side of over communication is the best tack to take.

I genuinely like the basis of the game. I am on disability and cannot work, so if I can look at a screen, I can play. I don't like being in the dark on things, and I don't appreciate being punished for not having money to shell out. I get enough of that ableism in real life.

Please be more open with your players. It is a skill like any other.

There certainly are plenty of challenges with starting a pet site, but the start of it is also the most important time for attracting players and making them stay. If that fails the site will fail too. Communication and listening to players' feedback should be their priority right now. It would be much less frustrating if there was at least some kind of acknowledgement of all this.

Everything would be fine if they would communicate with us and work out something that both satisfies them and their players. This issue won't go away until that happens, and if they keep this up and ignore our pleas for a response players will start leaving.

Hi there, just to pop in and say the Devs are aware of concerns about the communication between Players and the Dev Team, they are hoping to address some of these in the upcoming June Dev Update.

In the meantime, some communcations features that have been implemented are:

  • The Howl Hub so all news is visible to the player (with Patch Notes to be included in a future update)
  • Patch notes and Dev updates/announcements to be pinned first on site before announcement in Discord
  • Hired Community Manager (that's me!) to assist further with the transfer of User and Dev Feedback, with the main concern of keeping Players informed. (You can read about my introduction here)
  • Opened Moderator positions again to help with Mod visibility and communication with players

There's still much to do, but over the next few months and updates, the Dev team hope to bring you more communication improvements.

@Quiche Wow, that's a lot of progress from a small team in a short amount of time. Looks good, thanks for your hard work. It's nice to see the continued tags and updates in this thread as well.

@Quiche

I was worried about getting a ping from here but was pleasantly surprised, thank you!

I admit I have become pretty jaded by various games, so I can't be TOO excited yet until I actually see cold hard proof, but I will continue to hold out hope and allow a bit of optimism. I love this game, as to many others here, and we all just want to see it succeed and allow for healthy community and player practices.

@Quiche If you don't mind the question in here; discord mod apps have been open for a little while now, but not forum mod apps. At least, not according to the careers page. Were you referring to discord mod apps or does the opening of (forum) mod apps still need to be announced, with accompanied careers page?
