The WW nerf is very unnecessary and will turn away players in the long run imo. It is already quite hard to get the chance to befriend a wolf, let alone actually manage to get one to join your pack. The tokens are a good idea, but 100---
100 tokens for a wolf seems ridiculously high, considering the nerf especially. That topped with the food nerf makes for a very nasty combo.
20-30 seems like an appropriate amount to me, it would still take some work but wouldn't make you sit in campaign for days and weeks.
The rest of the update seems quite nice; I just started yesterday but I am excited to see so much work being done. Thank you for the common food thing especially!
It is already extremely hard and rare and rng dependent to find wild wolves, yet completely necessary if you want to actually have more wolves without being bankrupt by the market. Having only two wolves really holds you back. So, honestly? Honestly, making it harder feels just really disheartening and unwelcoming (and it will be harder if food is harder to come by too). It feels like this game is only interested in players willing to pour a lot of money into it, and I'm not one of those players. I don't have that kind of money.
I don't think I wanna play if getting wolves in a wolf collection game is gonna be so hard for no reason, ;;
Going to echo what a lot of folks have already said. By requiring both 100 tokens ánd lowering the encounter rate, I am not sure if the actual concerns of players have been heard in terms of the frustration on this issue. I fear it will only make it worse. Also not sure why it was tied to hunting (e.g. adding another batch of RNG..! Is it always going to show up when you have 100 tokens, even if you don't want to get a wild wolf that specific day (think special days, birthdays, account anniversaries, new moon etc. etc.) Will that mean that one of the few hunting slots is always going to be taken. Or will it only show up every so often, meaning if you have bad luck, you're gonna need to farm for that specific hunting encounter…..
I feel this'll need some more balancing. I hope the feedback of the community will be taken into account on this one.
As someone who is really lucky rng wise and therefore wasn't particularly affected by the low encounter rate for wolves, and also doesn't particularly have a strong opinion… the thing with the knucklebone totems does seem a bit excessive. 100 encounters is a lot, I've been exceptionally lucky with encounters and even to me that feels like a lot. It has been less than a month, yes, but still. That's a lot of grinding, especially with the encounter rates reduced and especially to someone with poorer rng luck than me (and less time to grind!) Maybe something like 25 would be better? I dunno, I see where you're trying to go with it, but it seems awkward at best from the user perspective. I wish you luck figuring out a compromise.
Really happy about the 2L names though, thank you for that! I've always been partial to Io as a name, I'll have to get a wolf with it at some point.
It's been said many times on here already, but I want to voice how much I disagree with the new system. Either 1. return encounter rates to what they were before, allowing people to be barely be affected by this update excluding the 100 encounter reward or 2. lower the price to at most 50 if not lower. This is a major step in the wrong direction. Food, as well, was completely fine as is. We didn't ask for rates to be lowered, not everyone has hours to grind for food that won't even feed their wolf for the journey there. Nerfing parts of the game that were already okay is not okay and there are so many of us opening disagreeing with this update. Maybe with the player polls we won't have to deal with bad updates like this getting implemented, but who knows?
Just fix it. No one likes it. I love this game but I have to be harsh.
I'm really confused about the wwe nerf? I only encountered wws like 15 times since I started playing and I explore multiple times throughout the day. Only 1 time I have been lucky enough to befriend the wolf.
I get that it shouldnt be easy so you dont fill your den with wolves in like a day, but it's also incredibly boring. You have two options and they fail 9/10 times, so basically it's a huge gamble and the encounter not really worth it.
If I don't get a WW before 100 encounters AND the encounter rate is low, that is just a PAINFUL thought. I thought the whole point of the tokens was so that if you miss a bunch you actually get something so it isnt a worthless painful slog? It's still a slog.
As glad as I am to see the pebble tax, the main issue with wild wolves was always the combined grind and RNG. Everything here only exacerbates those issues, and then adds insult to injury by making it impossible to grind off of the food we get from exploring. (Which also hurts the core gameplay loop… but that's its own can of worms.) I get that the team here is inexperienced and small, but understanding why player suggestions are made is very important to the game's long-term success.
Thank you for the bug fixes! Especially glad my cooking stuff won't vanish anymore.
As for WW stuff, I'll try not to say too much on it, but I will say I think it's going to be really hard having a lower rate in the early days, but won't hurt as much later on. Because right now, given there's so few 2nd gens and I don't think any 3rd gens (or maybe a small number of them, but they're babies), it's really hard to get enough wolves to do things like Hunt/Gauntlet/Mine/etc. somewhat regularly without feeding them all a lot. Nerfing campaign as a food source will also hurt that, though in some ways, I feel like the intent is to discourage grinding somewhat and to encourage waiting a little more, but I could be wrong.
As for tokens, I think the best thing I can do is provide the best numbers I know: There was one unlucky person in the Discord who went over 300 wolf encounters before they managed to start recruiting some. Which would exchange for 3 wolves with the Hunting quests. (Meanwhile, if they'd recruited them at the roughly 1/10 chance, they would have 30.) And that was with intensive grinding for multiple hours a day and using up a stamina bar roughly every ten seconds (just refreshing past everything except wolves). That was over the course of a few days, rather than all in one day, but.
There are also people who managed to recruit several wolves a day with a lot of intensive grinding, but I didn't keep track of precise numbers. But I know their recruitment rates were above the 1/10 roughly average rates.
And my numbers so far are… with a few minutes to about an hour of grinding per day since I joined the day after launch, I've seen 20 wolves and recruited one. (Very casual play, to be clear.) Sometimes just using up 1-5 stamina bars, or whatever I've got leftover from doing other tasks.
Which direction those numbers are useful for, I can't say. But I thought they would be useful to have. Overall, I hope the two devs are watching stuff and seeing where they think they need to keep making tweaks. I'm not going to be too harsh towards them for stumbling around a bit at times, because this is all very new, and things are going to take a bit to iron out properly. Of course we're going to have weird bugs and things the community isn't happy with, for one reason or another. But with trial and error, things will get to a pretty good happy medium in the end.
To the devs directly, I hope you guys are taking care of yourselves and aren't too discouraged by the negative feedback. I imagine this must all be a lot to deal with.
