hi! maybe one of the more out there suggestions but i really think that recipe icons shouldn't all be exactly the same

recipe names are SO LONG that you literally can't read them at a glance. can't test on desktop right now, but I know on mobile you get the first 3 or four letters and the rest is cut off (ex. “Recipe: Sil…” silver what? pickaxe? bar earring? sword?)

I know you can just click on it to check thw whole name, but that kind of defeats the purpose. I only want to click things i want to buy!

My proposed suggestion/solution:

Change ALL recipe icons to reflect which item they're for, and add a mini indicator at the top left to specify theyre the recipes, not the item.

This would look similar to how food icons are, but instead of the chicken drumstick silhouette at the top left, its a scroll or book silhouette to designate the item as being a recipe!

I might add a mockup later, but i think i explained it fine for now!

Support. They get shortened to recipe: sil… and the like on desktop in the mole market too, so finding what you need can be needlessly difficult. Personally, the visual effect of everything being the same also makes it difficult for me to view in the crafting list, so I tend to ctrl + f for what I want instead of actually looking at it.

Yeah, I'd like this. The hovering to see the name can be annoying and also I bet it's even more annoying on mobile :') Even if the prices help determine what the thing possibly is (like all the scarf recipes are 15k), it's still a bit of a pain not knowing what exact recipe it is without hovering. For my chromebook, a lot of things are cut off like “Recipe: L…” in the MM so it's just as bad here, even with my screen/resolution being bigger.

oh gosh yes, full support!! on mobile i am basically forced to click every recipe to work out what they are, which is extra annoying when the pop ups get in the way of each other -_-

The recipe names being cut off is definitely an issue. Changing icons is one solution, but I think an easier solution is just to take “Recipe” off the beginning of the names and moving it to the end. We know it's a recipe based on the icon, but text confirmation will still be necessary for many players so keeping it visible when you hover on it would be useful.

I'm suggesting to change what is getting cut off for easier readability, like changing:

Recipe: Silver Pickaxe

to

Silver Pickaxe Recipe

I dont think changing the icon to reflect what they're making would only be more confusing for some players, regardless of if there's a little addition in a corner to indicate its a recipe. It would be too easy to get confused and think you're buying the actual item instead of just a recipe for it.

I like Coelacanis's option though, I think that would work well

while i agree it would be less confusing to reorder the names, theres still the issue of the names being so long it would get cut off anyway, still not solving the issue of it being way more work than a glance!

In the current order, you only end up with “Recipe: Ch…” that's only 10 characters. Swapping it to “Chaosium P…” is still really ambiguous. Maybe not as much, but a newer player (with launch being not so long ago is still very often the case) would still be quite confused and have to click, and that defeats the purpose of reordering things in the first place.

If the icons are switched, the names would stay the same with the “Recipe: Ch…” being the first thing to clarify, the MM section labeled “Recipes” the second thing to clarify, and the mini icon indicator being the third thing to clarify that the item is a recipe. I still think that changing the icons would be a better, more clear/easy to glance at option

Maybe the color of the recipe scroll could change to match the item more? Or have the item it makes overlayed on top of the scroll? hmm.

Either way, definitely want to echo Coelacanis that at the very least recipe should be moved from the front of the name to the back, or dropped completely. None of the other item categories are like this. It would be like if every companion was called “Companion: Brown Moorbear” and “Seed: Rice”.
What's interesting to me is that this change is shown in the patterns. The patterns' names in the shops are like “Brush Accent” but if you hover over it, it is called "Specialty: Brush Accent" so this shows that it is already possible for the hovered item name to be different from the mole market listing name, and so there is precedent for dropping the recipe category text in several instances.
(on second read, my post could read as dry/bitter but, I mean this all in a lighthearted and neutral way :P)

I like @Coelacanis idea. You could even arguably put the base item first by formatting the name as “Pickax, Silver Recipe” or “Pickax of Silver Recipe.” Could possibly even omit the word “Recipe” altogether.

I think it would be nice to have the scroll be open and the item inside it so the recipe icon is visually distinguishable from the item itself without having to squint at the much smaller marking in the corner. It would be more accessible, since the corner marking isn't very big or prominent, but you could still see what you were actually buying.

But at this point I would take literally anything but this. Please,
