I assume that the durability of pickaxes and wheels in mining is measured by either the number of ore units mined/feet traveled or the number of trips. Does anybody know the actual numbers for the different metals? I want to know which of them is the most efficient.
I've only used the copper, but it seems the pickaxe loses 2%/ore, and the wheels lose something like 8.33%/trip (to the first area at least). The wheels lose that amount no matter when they're equipped though, so if you put them on when you are 5 m away from your destination they'll still get the wear as if they made the whole trip. Also at some point they bottom out at 0.1%, but I've never remembered to pay attention to how that happens.
Update: Iron pickaxe is faster and only loses 1%/ore. I will test wheels once my current copper ones wear out.
Update2: Iron wheels appear to degrade by 4.17%/trip to lucid lake.
So in general, Iron tools are twice as durable as copper ones. Hope that helps!
