I also think a massive cooldown would work great to balance it! Not a fan of the “only change them one more time and then never again” because tastes change over time. What a user likes for their progens one year may change by the next.

The fact we even get as much customization for our progens on this site is incredible because on FR, not only are you limited to the color wheel pre-expansion, but you only got to pick two colors, and the third was randomized, and then your second progen was completely randomized. So I think being able to re-customize our wolf progens would still fit the spirit of this site! Though again, a major cooldown is justifiable, but I think it would be extremely worth it to exist <3

Old post, but I like this suggestion (even though I don't think its likely to happen).

I signed up not realising the implication of the pretty pair I made having never played a site like this before. They are both blue/green, but produce a huge range and I wish I could re-do it. I don't know if there was enough information on sign-up but I wish I understood how the colours worked before creating my wolves.

Perhaps a control would be only one wolf could be recoloured, or one every year etc. to avoid the concerns regarding instant progen line?

Even speaking as someone who wound up scattering my FR custom progen (I think like Three whole separate times) I would be against it

For the once a year - if you weren't using it in good faith you'd just treat it like a once a year breeding project skip (even being limited to one wolf a year it'll speed you up ridiculously if you can nab a mate that's even sorta close)

For expensive item of ten besprinklers worth - raises a question as to why you wouldn't just... buy ten besprinklers at that point. You're sort of likely to land on something nice enough within those ten.

I understand rushing registration and winding up with a poorly thought out wolf and salty because of it is something that sucks, but that's something besprinklers solve fine enough, scattersctolls did for me on fr just fine.

One could I suppose just give that chance to the early players but being early to something like this is such a big advantage on its own on games like this that it'll just be kind of unfair.

Making stuff in the demo is fun, but you can get what you made via breeding. That's kinda the point of breeding games - you have to do that to get your exact dream animal otherwise there isn't really a point to breeding even being in the game

As long as this is a colour change only and doesn't reset their genes or breed, plus has a year long+ cooldown I don't see a problem with it.

Instead of buying it, have it be a permanent soulbound item in player's inventories that is 'locked/on cooldown' for the first month after account creation. That lets users get a firmer grasp of breeding/colour ranges and see what they like.
