I brought up this question once in the Discord and hoo boy did people get fired up about it! [wheeze] this was before there was a cooking NPC at all, and I can't help but think he's called “thumbs” as a way to tell us the wolves don't have them?
However, this is clearly a ridiculous conclusion, given all the things the wolves do in the story. You can't put* a lid onto a jar or hold a battlehorn without thumbs, i'm sorry, it's just not happening! and unless we have a secret special NPC to help our wolves dress, wolves wouldn't be able to wear clothes without thumbs.
thus, i must conclude lorwolves have thumbs.
*the word i would normally use here is apparently censored. what is this, a site for five year olds? come on.
I don't think wolves in Loria have thumbs. I personally like to imagine how the wolves of Loria would make things work without having thumbs. Like, if they are intelligent then surely they would have developed their own ways of crafting things in a way that works for wolves. Maybe they have build tools that works as thumbs that can attach to their paws? Or what about trying to imagine how building/crafting would work without the use of thumbs? Specializes crafting tools made to be used by holding them in the mouth perhaps. So much lore possibilities! Then there's also the thought that wolves simply ask help from companions with things that would require thumbs.
I always just assumed they had extra dexterous paws, like if you look up the comic Wurr most of those characters have normal looking paws, they can just bend and move in a slightly more dexterous way, at least that's been my own personal headcanon for my own wolves, because I think it's super neat lol!
