@Mew - I've been getting them from the forums on LW and FR, TBH. I tried to keep my search within about half a year to get an idea of more "recent" prices, but if you're concerned about it being too low, I'll look back about a full year. I hesitate to go beyond that because the prices for everything used to be a lot steeper over a year ago. They're also rarely ever listed in the FM anymore, so I hadn't even thought to check there. 💀
I hadn't listed out every individual source from the forums before due to how long it took me to sift, and I didn't want to make the post too long, but here. Again, I extended my search this time, and because I was only looking for two things rather than almost all of the KS stuff, I was able to focus a little better and gather more data. I excluded posts merely listing the companions but not assigning any prices, or ones where a sale did occur but was discussed in DMs, so prices weren't available in the post. I had originally skipped over posts where a sale had occurred, but there was a pricing range and so I couldn't determine what it actually went for. I've reincluded those where I could find them:

The new overall total using older sales threads for both those companions would be about 7733g total now as opposed to 6000g. Using the ones just over a year old really hurt, but ah well, I'll be lenient. However, that now means that their combined value is greater than Smeargoth's by almost 1233g, or $12.33. If we're using this total, I wouldn't feel comfortable trading him alone now, so I'd encourage you to pick one of the other cheaper designs as an add on.
