Can you dye Material?

I noticed some Dye in shop and wondered if it’s possible you can use it to dye materials such as yarn?

for example I need pink yarn for a crafting recipe but right now in the mole market only blue is being sold, so if I had pink dye would I be able to dye the material itself?

You don’t dye the materials so much as craft the dyed object. To get Pink Yarn you combine Pink Dye and Cotton! You don’t craft yarn and then dye it pink. I hope this helps!
