Companions - Fashion or Function?

I always seem to struggle with whether to put a matchy companion on my wolves or one that gives me more rewards/optimal gameplay. What do you guys prefer for the majority of your wolves? Obviously you need a few wolves with more gameplay function regardless-- but for the rest of your wolves?

Personally, since I don't have a wide range of companions and I like to optimise for weekly events, I usually pick something functional, but it's not the case for every wolf. I'm sure as the game goes along I will get more options. Once my wolves hit level 10 I kinda need to switch them to something good for hunting or gauntlet or what have you.

At first, I tried very hard to give my wolves matchy companions. It's something I really enjoy doing on FR. After realizing my likes for wolf colors was so diverse and a lot of companions just didn't match what I was keeping, I then turned to try to make companions be paired with a wolf for the sake of functionality. I very much struggle with stars, especially, when it comes to hunts. Though, here lately, I seem to not even take either matchy or functionality into consideration and just slap a companion on a wolf I deem a keeper.

I do have my Gauntlet team all decked out with proper companions. Though when it comes to me getting a new one I usually am just too excited to take into consideration their synergies. Oops! Then I just forget to move things around because I always end up playing with a companion rather than taking them off and putting them on a wolf they'd work better with. I also am quite bad at doubling up on companions. Just something that has traveled with me from FR where you can only use one of each familiar, you can't use another of the same kind even if you have doubles. My brain can't get over the fact that each wolf needs a unique companion when I really should take into consideration the benefits of using dupes.

I'm a mix of both. I want my level 10 wolves to have companions that match their colors/type, but I 100% dislike companions that don't give pebble rewards, lol, sorry quillara and snowcat. I've only made a few special exceptions for hunting and appearances (e.g. Livia, Lucky, Divoky). Everyone else has something that's color/type-coherent and also gives high pebble rewards.

Editing to add: I think it's the principle of it, that every "sub-optimal" companion costs me 100p per nana interaction. I just don't want to be charged unnecessarily lol
