Things just weren't going his way today. Skoll shook off Doom's first attack. Rolling his shoulder and causing the long-legged black brute to roll off his muscle. But, it didn't take long for a second attack, then a third. Skoll growled loudly as pain sang from every wound. He didn't give Doom the satisfaction of an answer to his question either. Honor? Ha! A laughable thought. Perhaps in a past long since forgotten Skoll could say he had honor. This, attacking females and pup, attacking those that were considered much weaker, wasn't always him. But after the Consumed plagued the lands honor was the last thing on the table to consider. Honor had no place here anymore. Only survival.
As Doom's claws raked his back, cutting deep grooves into his flesh, the Dire let out an enraged snarl. The Bracchus had left himself open. Foolish child. Skoll's teeth gripped Doom's side, sinking into the other male with a squelch. It was a bite not meant to kill, however, but a bit to disarm. Mustering up enough energy, Skoll slung his head to the side, and with it Doom. At peak momentum he let Doom go, letting gravity take over. The Lupin, for now, was down for the count, and with the Bracchus now momentarily disabled, Skoll took it upon himself to flee.
With all his remaining energy the Dire ran. Ran until his paws ached and the pads felt as if they may crack and bleed. Rain still fell in thick, heavy sheets. At least it would wash the blood from his coat. With a huff he slowed. Skidding to a stop in the mud. His ears perked, white eyes drifting from darkened silhouette to silhouette. Paranoia was setting in. He jumped when he made eye contact with another Direwolf. She was a bit smaller than he. Her dark pelt splotched with lighter grey rosettes made her almost blend in with the surroundings. Skoll's body tensed as he continued to eye her suspiciously. His ears pinning back to his skull. However, taking in a deep inhale, he found himself relaxing, if only slightly. Her scent did not carry the scent of the others he had fought earlier. Though, he was no fool. He didn't let his guard down completely. This female also seemed to be hurt. As she walked, her steps were slow and she seemed to refuse to put pressure fully on one of her front paws.
Skoll cleared his throat, hoping to garner her attention. For now, he'd play nice. Even with his hunger gnawing at his empty belly and twisting his thought. "Is everything okay, dear?" he asked, raising his voice slightly so that he could be heard over the pouring rain, "Seems you're hurt. Do you need help?"
~x~
Vlade rolled over onto his side, the one where his shoulder didn't feel like it had been crushed under a boulder, and let out a groan. The warm rain was beginning to melt his ice wall now, causing chilled puddles to form. He lay there, his breath ragged as the pain danced through every fiber of his leg and shoulder. Ugh... this hurt. This was stupid... He moved his head back, at an angle, so he could see Doom. Or, what he thought was Doom. "Hey! Buddy, you okay?" he asked. Deep down he still didn't trust the others, but there was also a part of him that also didn't want to see them hurt. Sobena trusted them. They did help him when he was at his lowest. He needed to start realizing Sobena, though sometimes extremely naive, could read others enough to know when they weren't a threat. Though now, if Doom was hurt just as badly as he was, how the heck where they going to get back to the cave? Hurricane couldn't carry them both back on her own. This could be bad if they stayed here too long. The lingering smell of blood would surely attract unwanted Consumed.
