When do you exalt your fodder wolves?

I am finally starting to get into levelling fodder (Mostly because I had too many and I didn't feel like trying to sell them all for like 1kpbs each) so I threw one onto a team with another wolf I wanted to level while getting some of the Murkwood challenges done. I have mostly been waiting for level 10 to release them, but I was wondering if someone had actually made a profit point, or if there was some fodder level to fodder payout like in Flight Rising that I was not seeing yet.

I breed my own fodder, so whatever level I release them at is profit for me. However, I do always go to level 10, as you get a knucklebone token at lv10 in addition to the 10k pebbles.

Edit to add: I think a lot of people who release fodder wolves for income regularly, make use of the xp companions. There are some cheap companions (like the basidio and kuzma) who award wolf xp when bonded with and can be bonded with on the hour (those with a longer playing cooldown aren't worth it). You can equip this to pups and already level them up while they are still pups. Mine generally are lv8 or 9 by the time they grow up and I only need to level them a bit more before they reach lv10 to be released.

I honestly don't know if levelling them in the campaign all the way from lv1 is worth the time and food it requires.

I didn't know you could get knucklebones by exalting a level 10 wolf and thought you could only get them in Campaign-
I would usually exalt them the moment I got them from breeding but I'm glad I decided to stop by this thread lmao

I have also been just selling them right at level 1, but I decided to take my time and level them up to 10 now. The only problem now is remembering to release them instead of playing with the companion because you can't release on companion cooldown lol

@Gaia

I've got a few knucklebones but I don't know what they do. So far all they've done is sit in my inventory gathering dust. I haven't really been fully active on site since the beta aside from doing some fishing and cooking and mining on the side to get some quick pebbles, this is really the first I'm fully engaged in the site lol.

That being said I'm mostly using Murkwood's supplies to train 1 perma and 1 fodder inbetween 3 level 10s. I don't have enough companions to even try to put them all on my wolves to passively gain exp

I release them whenever I need the space they're taking up tbh. If I have plenty of room I'll take them to lvl 10, but if I'm low on space or have incoming puppies I'll exalt them at whatever level they're at (usually 3 or 4).

@FlareFighters Once you have 50 Knucklebone Tokens, if you go to the Hunting profession, a Wild Wolf hunt can show up (I believe it is coded so that when a new hunt is generated, either by rerolling for pebbles or doing and finishing a hunt, it is guaranteed to show up once you have 50 tokens or more). The Wild Wolf hunt requires 1 wolf (synergies and level don't matter), 50 tokens and 15k pebbles. It takes half an hour and the result is a guaranteed random wild wolf. It was to help with the incredibly low drop rates for wild wolves in the campaign. So even if you fail 50 times, you will still be able to get a wild wolf. Getting the token from releasing lv10 wolves was to help make releasing more interesting and rewarding. (To help with population control)
