When I go back to the smelter, the cart is empty, but there is no ore to pick up or anything to claim

Always take care when walking alone, lest you meet those monsters in the woods. They look beautiful at first (like snow), but then you see their too long faces, their all black eyes. And you hear their garbled words, spoken in sing-song voices. Like a parody of you. It's really such a terrible thing to know.
Did you check your inventory to see if anything was added?
Also, the claim is at the very bottom of the page. But it auto-claims when you travel to the mining area again so you might not see it until you go to your inventory :)
I will double check nextime I go! I didn't realize it auto claims when you move so that might be it!
