Honestly a good decision. it was needlessly amplifying opinions of a loud minority of power players and I was actively worried it'll hurt the game's accessibility on the long run if they catered to the 'meta' too much so to speak.

Whenever they try to introduce balance fixes that'd make the site more interesting/less unintuitive to pay (ie higher point density foods actually being more efficient and not a noob trap) someone always finds a way to complain about it messing with their pb/hour while ignoring how these changes usually address real playability/economy issues

I've voiced this, but I am not happy. Mostly cause I don't think it will bring life to the forums, as everyone I've seen talking about it (in the discord) wont be transitioning to the forums and are instead breaking up into other unofficial servers to continue business as normal. Now just instead of everyone being in one spot, people will pick their favorites and break into smaller groups. Which is disheartening to see. A lot seems to have dampened spirits that some wont even be continuing to restock CA's anymore, which is also disheartening. I've seen a few players quitting completely and liquidating their dens, and it does feel like its just split the community.

I feel it’s hard to say the influx is due to the discord closing when it happened alongside a massive update to the game, that added so much to do. Updates often bring periods of activity with them, the real test will be once the rush dies down.

Obviously I want the site to be active and thrive, but I’m not thrilled with how the server was closed. I might not have felt so resentful if there was a longer grace period for people to adjust.

There are still people entering the servers I’m in completely confused and blindsided by how quickly and without warning the server closed, some don’t even know why and even missed it in the update. People were posting screenshots of the announcement because so many people kept asking what happened, and why it was closed. There wasn’t even a weeks notice.

I’m SUPER grateful for the unofficial servers because I have a weak immune system, and spend long times away from my computer. The discord gives me little pings of announcements which keeps me informed and active, without having to do much searching when I am feeling ill. So luckily I’ll still have most of the community that made me feel welcomed and made me laugh, but I still am unhappy with it closing and how it was closed.

I feel like people just gonna migrate to a different discord, so it's a temporal effect for the forums at the moment (and I think it's mostly caused by event specifically).

For some things discord was a better option (like asking random questions not worthy of creating a new thread for, friendly chatter or sharing arena/game screenshots when asking for strat tips, solely because you got replies way faster there than you do on the forums, not to mention a hassle of hosting the images somewhere else before posting them here).

As someone who was never in the official discord and hopes the forums can be improved and more used: Four (?) days is... very abrupt. I'm sure people were scrambling to save old conversations and memes and exchange contacts and get new servers set up. It sucks a lot, still. I understand why it was done, and it will hopefully solve some of my own deep frustration and resentment if site staff will COMMUNICATE, but I also have plenty of empathy for those who lost what they had relied so suddenly.

Most folks knew people would just migrate to a different discord.

One of the community servers ended up booming with activity and was far more active than the officially run server after the debacle. The staff is also very nice and approachable! So as far as things are concerned, the discord side of the LW community is very happy in their new den ;) provided they navigated themselves to these new communities.

As far as forum activity? The forum is the de-facto place to post guides and event news as well as discussions that fit the 'snail mail' pace. Everyone gotta admit it, but forums are extremely slow, and that's one of their strong suites. Getting instant answers to questions is a discord strength, and looking up a well-described and detailed guide is a forum strength. Wishing other players to have a bad time is not a strength for any player though...

It is perfectly normal that forum activity and discord activity are different. People like me, use both for different reasons.

Will this fix the forum? Nope. You need to fix the forum to fix the forum.

i migrated to another discord server! after the way discussions went on the boards and how the shutdown was handled, i feel like posting on the forums less, where i was trying to post more before. it is possible to post in both, and to support players having both the forums and discord... the issue imo was that site news was being posted to the discord and not the forums. it should've been posted at the same time on both community centers. we have also now lost a method of communicating with the site staff.
