Quiche here again to give our community more information on Cooking, its current state and the potential future for Profession reworks. After the bug pushed out partial test coding to the live site, our community understandably has some concerns about the future of Cooking.
Why are we looking at Stamina Changes?
The community has given us plenty of feedback on the current state of Cooking and we agree, to sum up Cooking needs a balance. Our philosophy revolves around strengthening high-rarity food. A grey-rarity cooked steak should not be more nutritious and efficient than an epic-rarity full roast meal. A chef should learn more from cooking a pumpkin pie than grilling a tuna. And a couple of complex recipes and staple ingredients should not take up an entire pot.
How does this help the Cooking profession?
When looking at the changes to food, one of the elements of Cooking we wished to strengthen was tiered cooking. An example on-site already is the relationship between Bread and Bread Feasts. More recipes should be made so all raw materials and cooked dishes have a Cooking tree path that leads to high-rarity foods.
One example scenario:
A low-level Cook can cook Flour to level up their cooking, whilst Flour is not stamina-efficient, it is used in plenty of mid-rarity foods, so a player can sell or trade Flour to mid or high-level Cooks who no longer wish to make Flour.
A mid-level Cook can cook Bread to level up their cooking, Bread is stamina-positive but is also needed in high-level Cooking to make Bread Feasts. This Cook can decide whether to use the Bread or trade to the Flea Market.
At higher levels, Cooks can create some of the best stamina-efficient food per pot in Lorwolf. Bread Feast no longer takes 5 slots to create, instead taking 3 slots per recipe. These Cooks can decide whether to sell to the market, use for themselves or trade services to further level their profession.
Why does raw and grey-tiered food need to be balanced?
Across the span of the Cooking profession, the weight of stamina and exp has been shifted from raw foods to high-tiered cooked foods instead. This has led to the stamina balancing of raw foods and the few cooked 1:1 cooked foods such as Cooked Meat. Players may feel concerned that this will restrict lower-level options for cooked sources of Stamina. Instead, we are looking to introduce more 1:1 recipes for most raw materials, such as raw Corn becoming Grilled Corn and Potatoes becoming Baked Potatoes. Further recipe expansions to these 1:1 recipes will allow them to be used in higher-rarity Cooking.
Will anything happen to food in the next update?
Yes. We plan on updating stamina for some of these foods and the raw/lesser ingredients in preparation for new recipes in the upcoming weeklies. Update: There will be no changes to Stamina in the next update as we review Player feedback.
Does this affect other Professions?
Yes. As we look to strengthen higher-tiered Cooking we wish to express our intent to integrate Professions/Activities with each other more with small updates across the site. More options may open up in other Professions, such as more mid to high-tiered crops becoming available, hunting specific food sources and so on.
We look forward to expanding and balancing Professions as we move forward and like to thank the community for being a part of our journey as Lorwolf grows! As always, your input helps us shape and improve Lorwolf every step of the way.
